My Route

Here is a map showing my approximate route. I'm trying not to adhere to a strict schedule or route, but as you can see, I'll be hugging the perimeter of the U.S. and exploring some of southern and southeastern Canada.

One Week to Go

Eager to hit the road -- but not as eager as my wife is for me to clear my growing pile of provisions out of the family room! Since I have a restricted diet due to celiac disease,  I've stocked up on gluten free food. More packing and errands this week and then I'm off!

The main purpose of this trip is to shoot photos and videos of various sites around the continent for use in the geography classes I teach at Chemeketa Community College.  I applied for and was granted a full year sabbatical for 2014-15, so I'll have plenty of time to edit and share my materials once I return.

Ready for the Road!

Warm summer greetings from Salem, Oregon's beautiful capital city! I'm excited to start this blog highlighting places I visit on my sabbatical road trip around the U.S. and Canada. My plan is to depart on Labor Day (September 1) and return shortly before Thanksgiving, making a clockwise loop around the continent. I hope you'll follow me on this "voyage of discovery!"
